1 Step Forward

Don't be frog...become a ninja turtle!
We've all heard it before, the old frog in the well story: "2 steps forward, 1 step back". Similar to the ancient Japanese Proverb "Fall seven times, get up eight", it inspires one to be patient  and persevere. This time of year it is all about avoiding the flu, and if you could strengthen your body to the point where you no longer took those inevitable steps backwards, would you?

Just like a growing plant, our bodies need nutrient-dense soil, fresh air, clean water and daily sun exposure. These can of course be extrapolated many ways but for the purpose of today, let's examine the importance of the nutrient-dense soil we plant ourselves in. From a physical standpoint, our gut flora is the most important. As our first line of defense, digestion and intuition, the health of our gut is increasingly becoming well-known in today's society.

That is a good thing. But I must stress that in order to avoid those steps backwards, one must continue to have courage to ask themselves questions and seek their own answers, for not all probiotics, like many things in the supermarket, are not created equally. Experiment with making your own saukerkraut, kimchi, or kefir. Don't like those foods? Well EVERY traditional diet in the world has some source of naturally-created probiotics so get out there and find ones that work for you.

But don't take my word for it.  Here is a great article from Dr. Mercola discussing the benefits of probiotics, The Economist's recent article, and also why gut flora should be tested BEFORE vaccinations in new borns. Plus below is a great video from Tedtalks. So stop being a frog in a well, and become a flippin' ninja turtle!

See you later my fellow bacteria!
